Grandparent Yellowstone RV Trip, Days 9, 10 & 11 Moving through Wyoming and Colorado

Day 9 – moving from Grand Tetons to Cheyenne, Wyoming

Nick wanted to begin this day early and we left by 6:30am, which provided a beautiful and quiet drive through the Tetons. We drove for a few hours before the kids awoke and we stopped in a little town. I loved this drive through Wyoming and all of the horse ranches we passed along the way. The kids did a little bit of school, I caught up on blog posts and did some reading. It was a smooth trip and we arrived around 3:30pm at our RV park south of Cheyenne.

We visited Terry Bison Ranch in 2022, and it was fun to return here. We had just enough time to unhook and make the 4:30pm train tour around the ranch to feed the Bison and learn about them and the ranch. It was about an hour ride and fun!

Afterwards we ate taquitos Nammaw had previously cooked and frozen, watched some of the Rangers game and played outside at our RV park.

Day 10 – moving from Cheyenne to Colorado Springs

We didn’t have as far to go this day, but still left at 8am. Once I had a better idea of our eta, I called our RV park and asked about checking in early, which was fine since no one was in our spots the night before. So we arrived before 1pm, unhooked and ate sandwiches for a late lunch.

We stayed at Golden Eagle Campground, a place we visited in 2021. It has a really neat museum attached to it that houses the largest private bug collection in the world. We didn’t have time to go through it this trip but we recommend this campground- it feels like you’re actually camping vs the city RV parks that have pretty rough reviews.

Since Nick accidentally ran over C’s bike in Grand Teton, we made a trip to Scheel’s in Colorado Springs to get her a new bike as well as some fly fishing gear.

Following a close friend’s recommendation, we then drove downtown to Skirted Heifer, a phenomenal burger place with a fun seating atmosphere across from a park. We enjoyed it!

Glad we waited until the evening and cooler temps, we headed to Garden of the gods and enjoyed a brief stroll through the Perkins Central Garden Trail and then a quick stop at Balanced Rock. Our kids always enjoy visits here and it’s free!

Also- it was overall day! Carmen requested this earlier in the summer when she got her first pair of overalls. This may become an annual tradition for vacation. 😉

Day 11 – moving from Colorado Springs to South Fork

Although today was a moving day, we left by 7am to drive back northwest to a favorite restaurant in Green Mountain Falls – The Pantry! This lovely little cafe was built around a little brook of water and trees nestled in the side of a mountain. The atmosphere is incredible and the food is, too! The same close friend recommended this to us in 2021 and we loved it so much that we knew we had to return. Arriving early on a weekday meant we didn’t have to wait for seating! Most of us ordered their special- Cinnamon Roll on French Toast with eggs and bacon, alongside hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. After breakfast we walked around the pond and the boys fished some while the girls played on a nearby playground.

On the way back to the RV park to hookup and leave, our family finished the final book in the Wingfeather saga. We cannot recommend it enough. This was the second read for the boys and me, and the first time for Nick and Carmen. Such a great story with gospel themes of redemption and renewal. I already cannot wait to read it again with the girls.

Next stop and likely the final blog post: Fun Valley near South Fork.
